A New School For Richmond Is On The Way

MEDIA RELEASE
A NEW SCHOOL FOR RICHMOND IS ON THE WAY
Richard Wynne
APRIL 27, 2016

Students in Richmond will soon have a new school, with the Andrews Labor Government providing an additional $42 million for the new Richmond High School.

The Member for Richmond, Richard Wynne today announced the funding as part of the Victorian Budget 2016/17. This funding is on top of the $1 million provided last year.

The Budget provides the investment needed to acquire land and build another 23 new schools. This means that despite 4 years of under investment from the former Liberal Government, the Labor Government is now rolling out 42 new schools across the state.

The Victorian Budget 2016/17 includes:

  • $185 million to plan, build or complete 12 new schools
  • $102 million to buy land for at least 11 new school sites and additions at several other schools
  • Victoria is experiencing unprecedented population growth, with an expected increase of 300,000 new students by 2031, making new schools a vital investment.

Enrolments will open for Richmond High School in 2017 with students to start in 2018.

Quotes attributable to Member for Richmond Richard Wynne

“I’ve always been a strong supporter of public schools. We’re making Victoria the Education State, where every child has access to a great education and can achieve their potential.”

“Labor went to the 2014 election with a commitment to build a new High School in Richmond and I’m proud to announce we’re getting on with delivering for Richmond families.”

“Our children deserve access to the best school facilities. That’s why Labor has committed $43 000 000 to build a new co-educational high school for years 7-12 students in Richmond.”
